Virtual background images11/10/2023 ![]() We put ourselves in such situations more often than not. His daughter, Marion, burst into his office with a hippity-hoppity strut that has since become an internet sensation for confidently entering a room. We all have seen the wonderful viral video of this BBC dad (unless you have been in a cave for 3.5 years): Kelly, an associate professor of political science in South Korea, was speaking live from his home-office (that was wonderfully equipped) when all hell broke loose behind him. For instance, imagine your spouse walking in the background with a pancake on a spatula asking if you would like to have one more (No, it did not happen to one of us) or even better imagine your kid walking into the room completely naked asking you to help wear his shorts (Neither did this happen to us). Things fallout a little when we are pushed into situations we aren't usually comfortable with. However, partaking in a virtual meet-up is also causing a new type of predicament to take form: the anxiety of what and how we look like on-screen. Platforms like Zoom and Skype have proved their worth as millions can be virtually connected from home. At this time of social distancing, the only way to be connected to our colleagues and customers is through video conferencing tools. ![]() We are seeing enterprises rapidly adopt principles and policies even before most have had the time or opportunity to properly prepare for this quarantine. For the first time in a long time, we are collectively experiencing a worldwide phenomenon that dictates us to work from home or work remotely.

Here's another great resource on film photography to read on Pixpa.Df96 “Developer&Fix” B&W Monobath, Single-Step Solution (liquid or powder) ILFORD and Paterson’s Film Starter Kit (announced on EMULSIVE on October 24th 2019) has been a huge success and one of many community efforts at introducing more new photographers to the joys (and creative possibilities) of film processing. There's a lot to think about when using film and developing at home, but it is not all that difficult and the process itself is part of the attraction of film photography. Darkroom developing is a highly specific market with a few key established brands. Just choose a kit designed for film or print, color, or black-and-white, and you’re ready to go. The digital scans are effectively a backup of the physical negatives, which are stored in a folder and can be re-scanned with future technology at any time.Īn image doesn't exist until it is printed, and I can easily send my scans to a print service or create a photo book. If darkroom developing is a new pursuit for you, then buying chemicals in a kit is a simple and convenient way to get started. With this hybrid approach, many digital techniques are now available: HDR, panoramas, spot/dust removal, dodging and burning, smoothing and sharpening, colour mapping, the list goes on. This saves so much time it might be worth getting Lightroom for this reason alone. I have since started using Lightroom, and created a preset to invert a set of images automatically. Negative images can be inverted to positives using Lightroom or Photoshop (but not Adobe Camera Raw, the Photoshop Elements Organizer or Canon Digital Photo Professional, annoyingly).Ī note on inverting photographs: I used to use Photoshop Elements for this task, but that means opening each image separately, inverting to a positive image, and saving the file (fortunately, saving can be done as a batch process). The images are high resolution RAW captures, and the resolution can be increased by stitching multiple images of different parts of the same negative. To make this process easier, I use the Canon's tethering software to use live view and remote shooting through my laptop. A dedicated scanner can be used, but as I already have a digital camera, tripod and a macro lens, I simply place my film on a light box and take digital pictures of each frame. As much as I'd like to do this for fun someday, I currently use a hybrid method of shooting and developing film, but then scanning it and processing on a computer. Darkroom printing requires a lot of extra equipment and a dark room.

Kobo h2o apps11/9/2023 ![]() The Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 is the second e-Reader to employ the new ComfortLight PRO lighting system, which comprises of nine white LEDs and eight RGB LED lights. Unlike smartphones and tablets that are backlit, this leads to less eyestrain during marathon reading sessions. Traditionally there are LED lights embedded into the bottom of the bezel and they project light upwards across the screen. The vast majority of Kobo e-Readers have frontlit technology that allows you to read in the dark. The screen is sunken, which means they are employing an IR display, instead of a capacitive touchscreen. ![]() The Kobo Aura Edition 2 features a 6.8-inch E-Ink Carta Display with a resolution of 1430×1080 and 265 PPI. This is also useful if you are the type of person that often spills coffee or tea all over the place. The Aura H2O Edition 2 is waterproof, so you will be able to take it to the beach or the bathtub and not have to worry about totally submerging it in water. Maybe my mistake is using google search in lieu of the mobileread search engine, as google tends to primarily provide posts that haven't been edited in 5+ years, with the latest reply being 3+ years old or with the 10 pages of most recent replies consisting of three people in an esoteric argument.Kobo has been developing e-readers since 2010 and the company has just announced the best one yet. As far as most other plugins/mods go, the 'definitive guides' and hundred reply posts about them are many years old, so I am trying to find out if I'm missing any fundamentals. Perhaps I didn't make this clear, but I tried starting off the discussion by mentioning those examples precisely because they have been discussed more recently. So, I'm completely baffled by the idea that you can't find discussion on them that is less than three years old.Īh, well I've also gathered that people like to facepalm newbies here, so I had tried editing my post with a 'if this is dumb just link me elsewhere' line, but I missed the 5 minute editing window. ![]() And all of them have had at least one update this year. Huh? Everyone of those plugins and addons are heavily and frequently discussed here. Like I said, I know it's been discussed many times but there's seems to be a need for a more up-to-date discussion on this. The short list of candidates I've come across:Īre the first two no-brainers, or are people divided on them? I already know people are divided on KoReader and other alternative readers, but generally speaking are they as popular as they used to be? And if so is that due to reading experience and book organization reasons or just chess-like reasons? And are there any other basics I should know about? I'm sure there are lots of shiny new plugins and mods that I will explore in due time, but for the time being I am searching for timeless things that have nearly consensus endorsement by experienced kobo users (things that have a 50/50, love/hate split would also be interesting to hear about). I've just purchased a Kobo Libra H2O so I am wondering if there are any tried-and-true plugins/mods that improve the experience of owning a kobo with respect to reading experience and book organization (not interested in playing chess or anything like that). Furthermore, I've heard that the built-in kobo reader has gotten better over the years, as have other built-in features. I've read through tons of threads on here about plugins and mods for improving the kobo experience, but most haven't been updated or replied to in 3-10 years.

Original monopoly game 193511/9/2023 ![]() ![]() The Harveys loved it and soon began hosting weekly game nights. Hoskins, who had first played the game in Indianapolis, showed it to her friends and fellow Quakers Cyril and Ruth Harvey. Monopoly came to Atlantic City in 1929 via Ruth Hoskins, a teacher at the local Friends School. Scott Nearing was a radical economist who taught his students The Landlord’s Game, which he called “monopoly.” (Library of Congress) As Magie’s game spread to different locations, players added to the original board and changed the names of the properties to forge more personal connections to the game. Nearing taught the game-which he called “monopoly” or “the monopoly game”-to his students at the Wharton School and the University of Toledo. The Arden residents who played The Landlord’s Game included author Upton Sinclair and economics professor Scott Nearing. Magie introduced The Landlord’s Game to family and friends, including the residents of Arden, Delaware-a utopian community formed in 1900 to demonstrate the virtues of Henry George’s land and tax theories. ![]() She labeled one of her corner spaces “Mother Earth.” Each time players passed Mother Earth they collected $100 in wages. Magie’s square board included twenty-two property deeds, four railroads, two public utilities, and four corner spaces. The object of The Landlord’s Game was to obtain money and wealth by purchasing properties, charging rent, and creating monopolies. Magie called her invention The Landlord’s Game. The proper history of Monopoly began in the early 1900s when a stenographer living near Washington, D.C., Elizabeth “Lizzie” Magie (1866-1948), created a game to demonstrate the destructive and anti-social nature of monopolies as outlined by the famous nineteenth-century political economist Henry George (1839-97). (Photograph by Ron Jarrell for )Īlthough an unemployed Philadelphia salesman, Charles Darrow (1889-1967), was long credited as the creator of the world’s most popular board game, the origins of Monopoly stretch several decades before Parker Brothers purchased the rights from Darrow in 1935 and beyond the iconic streets of Atlantic City featured in the game. The Atlantic City street names were not adopted until 1929. Philadelphia, the Place that Loves You BackĮssay Elizabeth Magie’s original game boards used generic business and street names, as seen on this 1903 game board from Arden, Delaware.

Netflix top 10 usa11/9/2023 Information on the site starts from Jand any lists published before Jare ranked by hours viewed. For titles that are Netflix branded in some countries but not others, we still include all of the hours viewed. On the Most Popular List, we wait until all episodes have premiered, so you see the views of the entire season. For the weekly lists, we show the views based on the total hours viewed during the week divided by the total runtime available at the end of the week. Some TV shows have multiple premiere dates, whether weekly or in parts, and therefore the runtime increases over time. Country lists are also ranked by views.įinally, we provide a list of the Top 10 most popular Netflix films and TV overall (branded Netflix in any country) in each of the four categories based on the views of each title in its first 91 days. To give you a sense of what people are watching around the world, we also publish Top 10 lists for nearly 100 countries and territories (the same locations where there are Top 10 rows on Netflix). Because titles sometimes move in and out of the Top 10, we also show the total number of weeks that a season of a series or film has spent on the list. We consider each season of a series and each film on their own, so you might see both Stranger Things seasons 2 and 3 in the Top 10. We define views for a title as the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime. ![]() These lists rank titles based on ‘views’ for each title from Monday to Sunday of the previous week. Here, we count down our 20 favorites.Every Tuesday, we publish four global Top 10 lists for films and TV: Film (English), TV (English), Film (Non-English), and TV (Non-English). Some have been well-executed versions of familiar TV forms, while others have seemed so wholly new that it’s hard to imagine them existing in the pre-streaming era. ![]() In the nine-plus years since House of Cards debuted and changed the streaming originals landscape, some excellent shows have escaped the algorithm’s clutches and made their way onto our screens. And when few Netflix shows feel as essential as what can be found elsewhere, that’s how you get to a huge subscriber loss being presented as relatively “good” news.īut it hasn’t all been intentional mediocrity for Netflix. The suits trusted that the superior caliber of their user interface, the power of their recommendation algorithm, and a heavy emphasis on serialization and cliffhangers would make people want to keep watching more and more Netflix, no matter what. Add in the lovably stoic face of Christopher Judge as Teal’c, and you’re in for some serious off-world misadventures. Still, some of it seems to be the result of an ethos among Netflix executives to aim not for great shows, but for ones that are just good enough. Originally a mediocre sci-fi movie starring Kurt Russel, Stargate has been spun off into a 10-season series, starring Richard Dean Anderson of TV’s McGuyver fame (circa 1985, not 2016). So what happened? How did Netflix go from wiping Blockbuster off the map to potentially becoming a business school cautionary tale in its own right? Some of it is simply competition once every entertainment conglomerate realized it needed its own streaming service to survive, Netflix ceased to be everyone’s first choice for where to spend their home-entertainment dollars. Things have gotten so rough for the floundering streamer that it’s planning to introduce a cheaper, ad-supported plan next year to attract new subscribers (or, at least, to keep from losing more). Now, though, many of its most-watched library titles, like The Office and Friends, have moved to streamers owned by their respective corporate parents, while the most buzzed-about originals of the last couple of years also tend to come from non-Netflix streamers, whether it’s Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso and Severance, Disney+’s The Mandalorian, or Hacks on HBO Max. Netflix was once out so far ahead of the competition that it may as well have been the entire streaming video business for a while. How is this good news? Because the company had previously projected it would lose two million. ![]() In its latest earnings call, the streaming giant announced that it had lost almost one million American subscribers over the second quarter of 2022. ![]() Netflix finally got some good news last week - sort of - after a long stretch of the bad kind.

Modern tower of babel11/9/2023 ![]() He also noted that for the 2,000 years of exile, Jews excelled in many fields but were less represented in architecture and land development.5 Ways Christians Can Biblically Celebrate Halloween It allows people to be together in Israel.” ![]() “This is a Tikkun (fixing) for what happened after the Tower of Babel. “Tel Aviv needs high towers since it is becoming densely populated,” he said. Rosenberg noted that the builders of the Tower of Babel came together to challenge heaven, hence their punishment was to be divided and scattered. Even if it was just for beauty, beauty can be to praise God’s creation.” The fact that they envisioned a Torah scroll while designing the building is remarkable. The bottom line is that the intent of the builders and the architects of the Azrieli tower is l’shem shamayim (in the name of heaven). “The main sin connected to the Tower of Babel was not in their action but in their intention. His daytime job is as a tour guide for the Western Wall tunnels. Yisrael Rosenberg is an author who has a powerful connection to the spiritual implications of construction. Also, similar to the Azrieli Towers, each ziggurat was part of a larger complex that included a courtyard, storage rooms, bathrooms, and living quarters, around which a city was built. at the top of each ziggurat was a shrine. Indeed, the Spiral Tower Design closely resembles a ziggurat, an ancient structure from the Middle East built as a terraced compound of successively receding stories or levels. Some modern scholars have associated the Tower of Babel with known structures, notably the Etemenanki, a ziggurat dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Marduk built by Babylonian King Nabopolassar in 610 BCE. Midrash (homiletic teachings) described “an idol on the top holding a sword, so that it may appear as if it intended to war with God.” The Midrash also described a structure built on tall columns designed to protect the tower from another divine flood. Traditional Jewish sources provide additional details. Though the Biblical account contains no details other than it builders aspirations for it to reach great heights.Īnd they said, “Come, let us build us a city, and a tower with its top in the sky, to make a name for ourselves else we shall be scattered all over the world.” Genesis 11:4 More cynical critics of the design might draw a comparison between the elegant design presented by the developers and certain depictions of the Biblical Tower of Babel. The design also draws inspiration from ancient biblical scrolls and the way they unfurl upwards. The tower’s design takes inspiration from the twists of a snail’s shell, attempting to imitate their natural form. The main challenge for the initiators and architects was to create harmony between the three iconic towers that form Azrieli Center and the new tower, an impressive, one-of-a-kind structure which stands on its own. ![]() The tower was planned and developed in a unique geometric shape, never before seen in Israel, which captures the eye and the imagination. The unique design was produced by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), a New York-based architecture firm which is responsible for five of the 10 tallest skyscrapers in the world. According to the press release, the architects took their inspiration from nature as well as Jewish heritage. it is predicted that approximately 100,000 people will pass through the center every day. The tower’s peak will include space for conferences and meetings, recreational space, and a 360-degree view of Tel Aviv and the surrounding area. Six underground parking levels, covering an area of 45,000 square meters, will be built at the base of the structure, in addition to a commercial floor connected directly to the light rail. The plans are ambitious, with around 150,000 square meters containing commercial space, offices, residences, and a hotel. Its construction is expected to be completed in 2023. This title will go to a 400-meter high structure, the Bein Arim Tower, is under construction near the Israel Diamond Exchange, the Bursa, on Menachem Begin Road in Tel Aviv. By building the Spiral Tower, the Azrieli Group will compete with itself as they built the current tallest building in Israel, The Azrieli Sarona Tower which stands 782 feet high with 53 floors, just four years ago.īut the Spiral Tower will not be the tallest in the country. The new tower will take its place next to the iconic circle, square and triangle towers that make up the Azrieli Complex. Construction on the 1,150-foot tall structure is expected to take four years at an estimated cost of $800 million The Azrieli Group, an Israeli real estate and holding company, announced their plan to build Israel’s tallest building as an addition to their already impressive Azrieli Center Complex in Tel Aviv.
